Custom Concrete Driveway Replacement

01

Enhance your home’s curb appeal and increase property value with a durable concrete driveway. This feature provides a smooth, low-maintenance surface that lasts longer than asphalt and stands up better to fluctuating weather conditions. We offer a variety of styles and finishes for your custom concrete driveway.

Standard Broom Finish Driveways

This type of finish provides a unique look and slip-resistant surface. By dragging a specialized broom across fresh concrete, we create a subtle texture that offers safety for foot and vehicle traffic while also allowing for easy cleaning.

Reinforced Concrete for Heavy-Duty Use

If your driveway supports heavier vehicles or an RV, reinforced concrete is the way to go. Using rebar or synthetic or steel mixes, we increase tensile strength to improve concrete durability and prevent cracking under heavy loads.

Go beyond the standard gray concrete and add flair to your patio with decorative and stamped concrete options from Trinity. Stamped concrete is an ideal choice for patios and driveways. It’s durable and low-maintenance and can be made to look like stone, brick, tile, and wood.

Why Choose Concrete for Your Home?

When beauty and durability are what you’re after, choose concrete for your home’s driveway or patio. Compared to asphalt and pavers, concrete is a long-lasting and low-maintenance option that can withstand heavy loads as well as Mother Nature’s elements.

Built to Withstand the Elements & Weight

Concrete holds up well against freeze-thaw cycles by design, an important feature in Minnesota. It contains tiny air chambers that allow for expansion and contraction without cracking. Additionally, concrete easily supports heavy loads and structures because of its extraordinary compressive strength.

Low Maintenance & Long-Lasting Curb Appeal

Because concrete doesn’t rot, rust, or warp like other materials, it’s ideal for driveways and patios. It requires minimal upkeep while holding up well against the sun and weather.

YOUR PROJECT STARTS HERE

Our Professional Concrete Process

For jobs of any size, the expert concrete contractors at Trinity are detailed and precise to guarantee your driveway or patio is done right the first time. We ensure your concrete is structurally sound to withstand heavy traffic and equipment as well as the test of time.

Site Preparation & grading

To prepare your property for a concrete driveway or patio, our team at Trinity will inspect the location and work with utility locators to mark underground lines before clearing and demo begins. We carefully excavate, grade, and compact the soil to set a solid base for your project and allow for water drainage. Then we install a base layer of crushed stone or gravel and place forms to establish the perimeter of your project.

High-Quality Concrete Mix & Reinforcement

We use a durable aggregate mix to withstand heavy loads and protect against surface wear. To safeguard against cracks during freeze-thaw cycles, we make sure to incorporate a low ratio of air content. And for added stability and reinforcement, we install steel rebar or fibers as needed.

Professional Concrete Finishing & Sealing

Whether smooth or textured, we create the finish you want for your concrete driveway or patio. Then, we apply durable sealant to further protect your investment from staining, moisture, and sun exposure.

Concrete Driveways & Patios FAQs

  • How long should I wait before driving on my concrete driveway?

For a standard residential driveway, it’s usually safe to walk on the surface after 24–48 hours. However, you should wait at least 7 full days before driving on it. For heavier equipment and RVs, we recommend waiting the full 28-day curing period to ensure the concrete has reached its maximum structural strength.

  • How does Minnesota’s freeze-thaw cycle affect concrete?

In Minnesota, we experience 70–100+ freeze-thaw cycles each year. Because concrete is porous, it can absorb moisture. And when that moisture freezes, it expands and puts pressure on the concrete. To protect the integrity of your concrete driveway or patio, we use a specific air-entrained concrete mix that allows for expansion and contraction. We also install a professional-grade compacted base and proper drainage to prevent shifting and frost heave.

  • Is stamped concrete as durable as a standard broom-finish patio?

Yes. When properly installed by an experienced contractor, stamped concrete is just as durable as standard concrete. And with fewer open joints than patio pavers, it limits water infiltration. Applying a high-quality UV-resistant sealer every 2–3 years helps keep stamped surfaces looking their best.

  • Can I use salt on my concrete driveway in the winter?

We strongly advise against using rock salt on your concrete driveway, especially if it’s less than two years old. Salt lowers the freezing point, which then increases the number of freeze-thaw cycles for your concrete. If you’re looking for traction, we recommend using sand or calcium magnesium acetate, which is a de-icer that’s safe for use on concrete.

  • Why is my concrete flaking?

Surface flaking, or spalling, is often caused by moisture trapped in the top layer or from the use of harsh de-icing chemicals. Professional sealing of your concrete driveway or patio creates a protective barrier that prevents water and chemicals from penetrating the surface.

  • How often should I seal my concrete patio or driveway?

To protect your concrete driveway or patio from the harsh Minnesota elements, we recommend resealing every 2–3 years. If you notice water no longer beading or if your stamped concrete is starting to dull in color, it is likely time for a fresh coat of sealer.

  • Do you use rebar or wire mesh for concrete reinforcement?

For driveways and heavy-use areas, we prioritize steel rebar over wire mesh. Rebar provides greater structural integrity and helps hold the slab together during the natural expansion and contraction of the soil.

  • How do I make sure my new patio doesn’t sink or settle?

Settling is often the result of poor base preparation. Use a tried-and-true, multi-step process to protect your patio, we:

    • Excavate to the proper depth
    • Install a thick base layer of crushed rock
    • Use heavy-duty compacting equipment to create a stable, non-shifting foundation

  • When is the best time of year to pour concrete in the Twin Cities?

Concrete is best poured when temperatures are consistently between 50°F and 80°F. In Minnesota, our peak season is usually from late April through October. If we pour concrete during cooler months, we use specialized curing blankets and additives to ensure the concrete can properly set without freezing.

From start to finish, We'll complete your project on time and on budget.
