Residential Basement Excavation
01
We offer safe and effective residential basement excavation services for your project. Whether building a new home or making changes to an existing one, a sturdy structure starts at the bottom. Our team has the experience, knowledge, and equipment to dig out and prepare your site for a new build. Or we can demo and remove concrete to ready your current home for expansion or repair.
New Home Foundations
Get your new home off on the right foot by using our expertise to establish a solid foundation. We clear, level, and stabilize your site before digging to install footings and drainage. Our experience and knowledge of foundation construction help ensure your new home is protected from structural damage, soil shifting, and moisture.
Basement Additions & Expansions
Remodeling, expanding, or repairing your home’s basement can be challenging. But our excavation services make the process easier and safer while ensuring your project stays in compliance.
We’ll assess your site to create a plan for demo, locating utilities, and securing the required permits. Then, using state-of-the-art equipment and technology, we accurately dig out and remove concrete and soil while providing the necessary structural support. Finally, we level and stabilize the ground to ensure a solid base for a new foundation, footings, or concrete slabs, with trenching in place for utilities and drainage.
Commercial Foundation Services

- Building facilities and other structures
- Developing roads
- Installing parking lots or driveways
- And more
We also dig trenches for utilities and drainage to ensure water management and structural integrity.

Footing Excavation
Solid, deep footings provide the support you need for large buildings and heavy structures. Rely on our team to excavate your site to required depths. Establishing a proper base helps protect your commercial building from damage and ensures long-term stability.
Structural Slab Preparation
Our structural slab preparation process ensures longevity and durability for your commercial project. We evaluate the site before clearing, excavating, and leveling the area to make room for the concrete foundation. To prevent uneven settling that can cause your foundation to crack, we compact the soil and replace any soft spots with more stable materials.

Why Precision Matters in Foundation Work
The foundation of your structure is its starting point. Without a solid foundation, your home or building is subject to collapse, uneven settling, or other structural issues that can cause safety concerns and be costly to repair. A sturdy base will help ensure long-term stability, integrity, and overall safety.
Accurate Grading & Leveling
Precision matters when it comes to grading and leveling for your foundation. A solid, level base helps prevent uneven settling that can lead to cracks and other damage. Accurate grading ensures water is directed away from your foundation, protecting its integrity and your property from potential damage.
Proper Soil Compaction & Backfilling
Properly compacted soil creates a supportive, weight-bearing base for any structure and reduces the chances of soil shifting over time. When our team prepares your site for foundation work, we compact the soil and use appropriate materials for backfilling to ensure the integrity of your structure.
Erosion Control & Drainage Solutions
Over time, water can erode the soil around and under your foundation, leading to cracks and structural damage. The team at Trinity takes great care to trench your foundation and precisely grade the terrain to allow for proper drainage.

Basement & Foundation Excavating FAQs
We often get questions about basement and foundation excavating for specific projects, but many of those questions are similar in nature. Below we’ve provided answers to some of the most asked questions. If you have other questions or would like to know more about our services or process, contact us today!
How can you make sure my basement won’t have drainage issues?
Proper excavation, grading, and drainage are essential steps toward keeping basements and foundations dry. Our team over-excavates just enough to allow for the installation of drain tiles if needed. And we grade the site to ensure water flows away from your foundation to better protect it.
Can you excavate a basement under an existing house?
Absolutely. The process is more complex than a general excavation, but it can certainly be done. We dig out in sections and pour new, solid footings beneath the current basement to add structural integrity and ceiling height along the way.
How long does the excavation process take?
That depends. A standard project for new residential construction usually takes 3–5 days to dig and haul away. The complete process, which includes site clearing, digging, and backfilling, takes longer. Some projects can take 2–3 weeks, depending on soil conditions, weather, and unforeseen circumstances.
How deep does a foundation need to be?
In Minnesota, foundations need to be deep enough to sit below the frost line, which is generally 42–60 inches. This depth helps protect against cracks when the ground shifts or heaves during freeze-thaw cycles. For a full basement, we usually dig around 8–10 feet deep.
What happens to the dirt that’s removed from my basement during excavation?
Homeowners have a couple of options for excavated dirt. We can use it to fill or level your property, which eliminates the need to bring in soil at an additional cost. Or we can haul away excess dirt to a designated location for disposal or repurposing.
Do I need to have my utilities marked before you start digging?
Your public utilities will need to be marked, yes. But we can take care of contacting locators to do so. As a homeowner, you’re responsible for marking private utilities, such as an irrigation system, an invisible dog fence, or propane lines.
